AccessibilityAccessibility statement
We aim to meet the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) 2.2 at level AA. Automated accessibility checks run on every change, in both color schemes; manual testing with assistive technology continues, and we want to hear what we missed.
What we provide
Keyboard only
Every control is reachable by keyboard. In the typing field, Tab restarts the test (you can change the key in Settings) and Shift+Tab moves focus out. Between runs, Esc opens the command console; in a Zen run, Esc ends the run.
Screen readers
The text to type is the description of the typing field, and the result is announced once when a run ends, never letter by letter.
Not color alone
Incorrect letters are underlined and mistyped words keep an underline, so mistakes never depend on color.
Vision
Every theme is checked for WCAG AA text contrast and for distinguishability under common color-vision deficiencies. High-contrast themes are available, text size is adjustable, and the page works at 200% zoom.
Reading
Typing fonts include Atkinson Hyperlegible, Lexend and OpenDyslexic. A warning appears over the text while Caps Lock is on.
Motion
Caret glide, the flow trail and animations follow your system's reduced-motion setting, and each can be turned off in Settings.
Keys the typing field holds
Only while the typing field has focus, so a dialog never covers a run.
- Ctrl/⌘ + S P F G D OHeld: save, print, find, bookmark and open dialogs would cover the run.
- Ctrl/⌘ + ASelects the current word, so the next key retypes it and Backspace clears it.
Combinations with Alt are never touched (AltGr types letters on many layouts), and no navigation shortcut is blocked. Move focus out of the typing field (Shift+Tabor a click elsewhere) and every browser shortcut works as usual.
Known limitations
Touch keyboards
On-screen keyboards and autocorrect can interfere with timing; touch results are kept separate from hardware-keyboard results.
Input methods
Input methods that compose whole words at once report several characters at the same moment, which affects per-key timing statistics.
System shortcuts
Some browser and operating-system shortcuts never reach a web page, so the typing field cannot hold or use them.
