Built on the work of many
TypeTrance is built by ColsonSuperApps LLC on the work of many people. Everything we ship that we did not make ourselves is listed here with its license.
Word lists
Practice word lists (24 files in 11 languages: de, en, es, fr, id, it, nl, pl, pt, sv, tr) are derived from wordfreq and are shared under the same license.
Word list derived from wordfreq by Robyn Speer (https://github.com/rspeer/wordfreq), whose word-frequency data is licensed under CC BY-SA 4.0 (https://creativecommons.org/licenses/by-sa/4.0/). wordfreq includes data from Google Books Ngrams (http://books.google.com/ngrams); the Leeds Internet Corpus (University of Leeds Centre for Translation Studies); Wikipedia; ParaCrawl; OPUS OpenSubtitles 2018, which originates from the OpenSubtitles project (http://www.opensubtitles.org/); and the SUBTLEX word lists (SUBTLEX-US, SUBTLEX-UK, SUBTLEX-CH, SUBTLEX-DE, SUBTLEX-NL) by Marc Brysbaert et al., which are freely available data (http://crr.ugent.be/programs-data/subtitle-frequencies). Modified by ColsonSuperApps LLC (filtered, ranked subset); distributed under CC BY-SA 4.0.
Changes: we filtered the data (spelling, blocklists, proper nouns) and kept a ranked subset. The license and attribution also travel inside every word-list file.
Quotes
Public domain
The 446 quotes are excerpts from 275 works in the public domain both in the United States and in countries where copyright lasts for the author's life plus 70 years (for translations, the translator's too). Each one is copied word for word from the source text linked below and checked against it every time the collection is built; only typography is normalised (straight quotes, plain dashes).

Sound, Worlds and art
Made for TypeTrance
Sounds
The 9 keyboard packs, 8 game cues and 10soundscapes were made for TypeTrance (October 2026); a pack or a soundscape is downloaded only when you choose it. The synthesised keyboards are generated in your browser.
Worlds
The World backdrops (Deep Space, Night Drive, Riviera, Old Growth, Midtown, Mirrorball, Borealis, Peacock) and their optional ambience were made for TypeTrance (October 2026). Each World shows an original scene drawn in CSS until its art has loaded, and keeps it when your browser saves data; the ambience plays only when you switch it on.
Academy covers
The cover art of the 11 Academy guides was made for TypeTrance. It illustrates; it shows no data, and every number in a guide comes from its listed sources.
