The GRAND PRIX board
The fastest verified 60-second runs, today, this week, this season and all-time. A run gets here in three steps:
- Race it ranked. Signed in, on a text from a server-chosen seed.
- Re-scored. Our server replays every keystroke and must reach your result exactly.
- Reviewed. A person checks every run that would reach the top 100.

What Grand Prix measures
Grand Prix measures sustained speed over the classic one-minute length: long enough that rhythm, recovery from mistakes and concentration count, short enough to run again.
It is the closer of the two formats to the typing speed people usually quote.
Both ranked formats draw plain words from the 1,000 most common in English, a larger list than the 200-word lists common in typing tests: less repetition to lean on, so speeds here run a little lower than on a short list. Compare runs under the same rules.
The rules
The same for every player, on Free and Plus alike. The full scoring rules are in how WPM is calculated.
The clock
A timed run of 60 seconds from your first keystroke. The clock never pauses, and a run is scored over its full 60 seconds.
The words
Plain English words from the 1,000 most common, with no punctuation, numbers or capitals. Every run gets its own sequence from a server-chosen seed, so no one can rehearse the text.
The score
Corrected words per minute: only words typed exactly right earn credit, five characters to a word. Accuracy counts every key you pressed, including errors you fixed.
The keys
Backspace is allowed. Paste is rejected. Ten seconds without a key makes a run ineligible.
The input
Hardware keyboards and touch or assisted input have separate leaderboards. You declare which you use; automated checks compare it with what the device reports.
The flag
Players choose their own country, and it is never looked up from where they are. NATIONS ranks countries by the mean of their five fastest players here.
How a run reaches the leaderboard
Four sectors, from the start line to the leaderboard.
Challenge
Before you start, the server issues a signed, single-use challenge with the seed for your text.
Run
You type locally; nothing is sent while you type.
Re-score
Your browser sends the keystroke timing (never anything you pasted). The server regenerates the text, re-scores every key with the same engine and must reach exactly your result.
Review
Automated checks look at the rhythm of the run. Anything unusual, and anything that would reach the top 100, waits for a person.
How positions are decided
Each player holds one place per leaderboard, with their best run of the period.
- Higher corrected speed, compared exactly rather than by the rounded number you see.
- On a tie, higher accuracy.
- Then whoever was accepted first.
Today follows the UTC date, the week starts on Monday at 00:00 UTC, a season is a calendar quarter in UTC, and a run counts in the periods in which it began.
Frequently asked questions
Is a Grand Prix result the same as a typing test for a job?
No. Employers set their own tests, texts and rules, and a TypeTrance ranking is not a certificate. It is a fair comparison between TypeTrance players under one published set of rules.
Why do I score lower here than in Sprint?
Holding a pace for sixty seconds is harder than for fifteen: small hesitations and errors add up. That is why the two formats keep separate leaderboards.
Why is my run not on the leaderboard yet?
Leaderboards refresh within about a minute. Anything that would enter the top 100 waits for a moderator (we aim for 72 hours), and a run the automated checks flagged waits too — you see "pending review" in your own position. New accounts appear on the daily and weekly leaderboards; season and all-time open after 10 accepted ranked runs on 3 different days.
Is every name on the leaderboard a verified human?
No one can promise that from a browser, and we do not claim it. We raise the cost of cheating — signed one-time challenges, server re-scoring, automated timing checks and human review of the top 100 — and we remove results that do not hold up, with the reasons given to the player.
What does "Top x %" mean?
Your share among the players on this leaderboard, under these rules — not among everyone who types. It is computed from a histogram in one-WPM steps, so players with the same whole WPM count as tied.
What do the arrows next to a position mean?
Places gained or lost since you last looked at this leaderboard on this device. Your browser remembers the positions it showed you; the leaderboard itself keeps no history of moves.
Do Plus subscribers get anything here?
No. Ranking is identical on Free and Plus: same formats, same rules, same review.
